I finally got around to reading the July 23rd issue of Time. One of my favorite sections in Time magazine is the numbers section. Here’s the numbers from the July 23rd issue:
Finances
$15 trillion - Estimated Assets held by Americans 65 and older, the most in history for that age group.
This isn’t surprising in that as more and more baby boomers retire. I guess investing in industries that’ll favor from a growing retirement class wouldn’t be a bad idea.
30% - Percentage of Americans 65 and older who say they don’t have enough money to meet their basic living expenses.
This shows why it’s important to save up for retirement. Most people “live for today” and then spend the rest of their later years struggling to make it by. I personally don’t think it’s difficult to save 10% of your income off the time. It’s probably even easier to save a higher percentage in your younger years when you don’t have a mortgage, kids, etc. to worry about.
Weather
116 degrees Fahrenheit - Temperature in Las Vegas on July 5th, tying the record set on that date in 1985.
Electricity bills must be going through the roof with people trying to cool their homes. Ouch.
30 - Number of U.S. states facing a drought as of July 5th.
