I just got a call on my cell phone that woke me up from a company called Quality Resources. The lady on the other line said that they received my information from a “business partner” of theirs. At this point I’m extremely suspicious and I keep asking her who gave her my information and she kept dodging the question or answering with a vague one like “We got it from one of our business partners”.

She then decides to transfer me over the verification department. I have a feeling she just transferred me over to a guy that’s sitting right next to her. He informs me that I’ve already authorized a $1 charge to my credit card for a 30-day trial to Value Plus. They need to verify my address is so and so before they can send me my gas vouchers and brochures. He reads me my correct address and then I interject and ask how can I cancel my “membership”.

The number he gave me was 1-800-475-1942. I immediately hung up and called that number. The lady that answered informed me she couldn’t cancel my “membership” because I won’t be in the system until at least Monday. I’ve seen these types of “savings club” scams in the past before. Generally the vouchers are worthless and arrive right around when your trial ends.

What’s worse is the company will probably spread your CC information around to other scammers and I’ll get small charges every month which they hope I won’t notice. If I ever saw anyone that was involved with these con-artist companies on the street I’d probably go apeshit and shoot them (if I had a gun). Everyone’s gotta make a living, but these people contribute NOTHING to society.

If you get a call from anyone saying they’re from Quality Resources or Value Plus. Hang up. I will be calling these pricks back on Monday.

I’m not alone either: Google “scam ‘Value Plus’”

  1. I had the exact same experience just now… not 5 minutes ago (5-2-08, 11am EST) and the phone number they provide to cancel is VALID… they told me the same thing – waiting 72 hours for things to appear on the CC and then call to get it refunded… But at least the phone number they provide is the go to place to get it all stopped. The telemarketers are F’n pushy too – “You don’t want $40 in free gas?” Not for all this hassle I don’t… Anyway, I’m crossing my fingers I can call back in a few business days and have this be stopped immediately….

  2. They are STILL ripping people off!

WHY haven’t they been arrested yet?

    Who are they bribing???

    THROW THEM ALL IN JAIL!!!

  3. I had the same problem with ValuePlus. They had been charging my credit card since Jan.
This is what I did. I sent a letter to the following address to Murphy, the customer service person with a copy to the president of the company and the attorney general of Minnesota (Lori Swanson). Two days later, I received an email from ValuePlus saying they cancelled my account and will refund me in full within 2 days.

  4. You can file complaints agains all of these types of companies with the Federal Trade Commission. These are Federal crimes and there is an online form where you can complain at ftc.gov Good Luck!!

  5. I’m embarassed to admit I have been ripped off by Value Plus since Dec. 06. The small monthly charge of $16.95 was so small I didn’t even notice it. When I called to see who the are and what I was supposed to be getting for my money, the person at 1-800-475-1942 WC would provide no information. They should be arrested and I should check my statement more closely! The small amount was over $600 during the period.
