Fun article in the NY Daily News about Manhattan accountant Frank Van Buren who ordered 2 credit cards and accidentally received 2,000 from ExxonMobil.

July 26th, 2007NYC Central Park’s gets an upgrade.
July 25th, 2007Central Park’s Sheep Meadow’s free wireless internet gets a speed boost to 15 megabits per second from 3 mbps. This is great news if you’re living in nyc and enjoy internet service outside once in awhile. This is even better news if you’re a blogger living in nyc.
Perhaps this is a good week to take advantage of NYC Restaurant Week and grab lunch at Tavern on the Green for $24.07 and then hang out in Sheep Meadow.
Welcome to the working week.
July 22nd, 2007“Welcome to the workin’ week.
Oh I know it don’t thrill you, I hope it don’t kill you.
Welcome to the workin’ week.
You gotta do it till you’re through it so you better get to it.”
Elvis Costello – Welcome to the Working Week
I haven’t had a day off since the Monday I’ve started working. Between the 13 hour shifts and my need to eat, sleep, and use the bathroom might explain my lack of posts. The Liberty Science Center just had it’s grand opening and I’ve had to clock in a lot of hours but that’s coming to an end. My work hours for the coming week are unfortunately minimal. I guess it’s gonna be this way for the rest of the summer and I think I might have to pick up a second job to cover the rest of my free time.
Perhaps I’ll get a retail job somewhere I frequent a lot for the employee discounts.

$24.07 Lunch | $35 Dinner
$35 per person for dinner is still pricey for most people but these are some great NYC spots. I wanna catch the $24.07 lunch at the famous Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
As this post goes live I’m unfortunately at work on a 12 hour shift. The Museum re-opens on Thursday and currently it’s a soft opening for friends, family, etc.
I’m currently at work…
July 16th, 2007Yes, I’m currently somewhere around the Liberty Science Center (this post was created yesterday). It’s my first day on the job. I have no clue how much I’m getting paid or what my schedule looks like. I’ll have to update on that later.
Hopefully I’m enjoying my first day here and things are going smoothly. Maybe I remembered to wear enough deodorant because I’ll probably be a bit nervous and sweating.
Ahh, re-joining the workforce.
Time – Numbers
July 15th, 2007I finally got around to reading the July 23rd issue of Time. One of my favorite sections in Time magazine is the numbers section. Here’s the numbers from the July 23rd issue:
Finances
$15 trillion – Estimated Assets held by Americans 65 and older, the most in history for that age group.
This isn’t surprising in that as more and more baby boomers retire. I guess investing in industries that’ll favor from a growing retirement class wouldn’t be a bad idea.
30% – Percentage of Americans 65 and older who say they don’t have enough money to meet their basic living expenses.
This shows why it’s important to save up for retirement. Most people “live for today” and then spend the rest of their later years struggling to make it by. I personally don’t think it’s difficult to save 10% of your income off the time. It’s probably even easier to save a higher percentage in your younger years when you don’t have a mortgage, kids, etc. to worry about.
Weather
116 degrees Fahrenheit – Temperature in Las Vegas on July 5th, tying the record set on that date in 1985.
Electricity bills must be going through the roof with people trying to cool their homes. Ouch.
30 – Number of U.S. states facing a drought as of July 5th.
The numbers section is also available online from Time.com. For the rest of the numbers, visit here.
Got a new job!
July 13th, 2007I recently applied for a job at the Liberty Science Center here in Jersey City. The LSC underwent major renovations and is re-opening next week.
I got a call earlier today informing me that I passed my background checks. The Liberty Science Center’s interview process is thorough in that there are a lot of children that visit and they’re probably afraid of having certain “characters” work there.
Tomorrow morning at 9 am I’m suppose to go there and fill out some paperwork. I have the option of getting direct deposit so I might have it done to my ING Electric Orange Account. I don’t know how much exactly I’m getting paid but it’s suppose to be at least $10+. Now I won’t have to spend the rest of my summer unemployed.
Zecco update
July 12th, 2007Logged into my Zecco account and verified my bank accounts for external transfers. I also printed the ACAT forms so I can transfer my holdings from sharebuilder over.
I also noticed that Zecco doesn’t let you keep the trial deposits and took back the 26 cents from my checking account. Hopefully my next update will be detailing my first free trade.
How I Made $2 Million as Stock Operator & Created a Hedge Fund
July 11th, 2007That’s the tagline of the book “An American Hedge Fund”. The author, Timothy Sykes, mailed me an advance uncorrected proof of his book for review. The book is due to be published October 1st, 2007. I’ll try to read and review the book within the next 2-3 weeks. I’ll then hold a little contest to give out the book.
The book details how Timothy Sykes used $12,415 of his bar mitzvah money into 1.65 million from 1999 to 2002 hence his nickname “The Bar Mitzvah Boy”. One of his promotional plans seems to be “The Sykes Media Frenzy Plan” which is sending out tons of advance copies to the blogosphere.
Here come the posts!
July 11th, 2007So my sister got married. I’m done driving everybody and their mom to the airport and back. I now know every square inch of road of the way to the airport… and let’s just say I came to the wedding after party “strong”… and I don’t remember exactly what happened.
