PayPerPost is looking to sponsor a wedding.

October 31st, 2006

PayPerPost is looking to sponsor a wedding. They are looking for someone to “get hitched on November 18th, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The package includes:

  • The wedding license and ceremony
  • One nights stay at a premium Vegas Hotel
  • $1000.00 hard cold cash yours to spend any way you want.
  • Your wedding will be taped and streamed
  • Crazy PayPerPost antics live for everyone to see.

The exception is that this can be a 2nd marriage but it cannot be a renewal of vows. I don’t think they want you to divorce your spouse and then get married again either. Go to www.payperpostwedding.com for details and to submit your story.

This is especially great if you’re in the Vegas area and don’t want a typical Elvis wedding. I will definitely be following this one to see if anyone takes them up on the offer. One con is this is relatively short notice so one issue is making sure your partner WANTs to get married and the second issue is convincing them to do it PayPerPost style. So decide if you really want to and go for the payperpost wedding.

Using Credit Inquiries

October 31st, 2006

Usually I’m a person that always want credit line increases without a hard pull on their credit. However I’m tired of a dingy $1,100 line so when I asked the CSR for an automatic increase without a hard pull, she said they gave me a $300 bump last month already, so no deal. She then asked for a hard pull on my credit report and they would review it. I thought about it and eh, why not? My credit score will be better off in 6 months after the effect of the credit inquiry is gone. Bam! Instead of a petty $300-$500 bump, I got my line increased from $1,100 to $4,000.

So far I’ve gone from my first credit card 6 months ago with a $800 limit to a 3 credit cards with a $9,200 limit combined. Not bad for only 6 months of credit building eh?

Reason for lack of posts recently…

October 30th, 2006

I was drunk the whole week. That’s about it.

Just kidding.

It was my wonderful girlfriend’s birthday on saturday I was busy with planning, school work and misc other stuff the whole week. After everything, my net worth went down a bit, but hey, it’s worth it. I saved money where I could, but it’s her special day. That’s also the difference between being frugal and cheap. People dislike cheap people, not frugal people. Cheap people are the ones that won’t give a friend a lift without demanding gas money or whatnot from them. Frugal people are the kind that pack their own lunches instead of buying food at work/school/etc. Frugal people dont’ mind spending money on the people they care about. I’m frugal, not cheap. That’s about it, I’ll get back to my irregular schedule of posting at odd hours (but more often!) folks.

Riskier Investments

October 27th, 2006

I already got a nice base of growing dividend paying stocks. Now it’s time for some riskier investments.

Here’s what I got in recently
DRL at $4.90 – expect me to average down if the price sinks further.
ASEI at $52.09 – this one shot up a bit in the past few days.

Doral Financial Corp. (DRL) – Doral is been bleeding nonstop. The main issue was that they had to restate their earnings and had major problems with the i/o strips. They’ve settled their issues with the SEC and have hired new senior management. However there are issues that we have to deal with including the Puerto Rican economy growing at a paltry 1%, loan volumes are down, and tons of other problems. The picture isn’t pretty, but I really think management can turn the company around and the Puerto Rican economy will come out of its slump. I’m prepared to invest in this one for the long run.

American Science and Engineering (ASEI) – They develop security (x-ray) equipment and their customer base is governments entities. Part of this investment idea is that I think demand is growing for the types of products they sell and a whopping 29% of shares were held short, 27% now. Wait for that short squeeze baby.

New Template

What you’re seeing is a new template in process. I’ll thank Wilks from Highest Echelon for helping me get started. I’ll finish everything in time. I’m going to sleep now.

Carnival of Investing #45

October 23rd, 2006

Hey, welcome to the Carnival of Investing hosted right here at Endless Gibberish!

I’ve decided that the fairest way is to list each submission chronologically in order of when they were received. Let’s get to it… !

Starting off, Long or Short Capital has a humorous tidbit on Four Simple Steps to Becoming a Billionaire.

If you’re considering getting in on the Japanese real estate market. Adventures in Money Making talks about getting in investing in Japanese real estate with REITs.

If you’re going to invest in anything, you should always outline all the potential risks in addition to the potential upsides. That’s why Enough Wealth explains the types of investment risks out there.

Your savings account giving you paltry interest? Well, there are better options. This is also advice I give everyone on the issue of getting the most from a savings account from How Do People Get Rich? blog.

I love reading other people’s investment strategies. Personally I think you can learn a lot from people like FMF of Free Money Finance, here’s his submission detailing what he invests in.

Having difficulty choosing whether a a tax-free yield is more beneficial? AllFinancialMatters will help you find out how to calculate tax equivalent yields.

Want to rent your stocks for extra profits? MillionDollarCountDown talks about covered calls.

Investor Trip discusses two of my favorite discount brokers in “best discount brokerage firms in the biz”.

Searchlight Crusade discusses the pitfalls of investing exclusively in real estate. He doesn’t think it’s a bad idea to invest in real estate, but it’s good to have diversity, and I agree with him.

Check out an index fund valuation matrix at The Real Returns.

Abnormal Returns discusses the performance and publicity of hedge funds.

Queercents explains why they love their “granny flat”.

If you’re in college and don’t have much money, Blueprint for Financial Prosperity suggests you try paper investing.

Nubricks talks about real estate investing in other countries and how Joe Calzaghe makes the right move abroad to Apollon Holiday Village.

Fivecentnickel.com discusses opening a Vanguard SEP-IRA and Executing a direct rollover.

I swear I was going to do a post on this but I guess My Money Path beat me too it. This one is about how compounding interest works both ways(negative and positive) and how to turn $100,000 into $98,361 in six years!

Lazy Man and Money discusses his alternative income streams plans and progress.

That’s it for this edition of the carnival. I hope you found these posts as entertaining and as informative as I did. If you want more reading material you can check last week’s edition at
Gold Stock Bull. For all past editions and list of future carnival hosts, check the Carnival of Investing home.

PayPerPost aka PPP is a blog ads site. As part of a promotional campaign they are running a contest to earn $500 straight to your PayPal by piecing together all the pieces that are part of the payperpostbluemonster image. Free the Drones Personal Finance Blog

October 20th, 2006

The first time I heard of this blog was when they sent me some traffic (under my old site name) with this post detailing penny stocks and why they are horrible investments. Although the blog is geared more towards “achieving financial freedom for those drones slaving away in jobs they hate”, the site basically is a personal aggregator of personal finance content. I do find interesting things on there from time to time. Check it out – Free the Drones Blog. Which reminds me, I should get a tag line for my blog, perhaps “helping college student develop a financial plan to work as least as possible”.

Contacting Me

October 20th, 2006

I guess I never blogged about a way people could contact me.

Well, you can either e-mail me at hejustlaughs at gmail dot com (I format it that way to help with all those damn spambots, I get enough junk mail as it is.) If you’re gonna e-mail me, make the subject noticeable because I comb through tons of e-mails everyday. Usually I will reply within the same day or within the next two days.

I usually leave my computer on and logged onto aim so you can instant message me through AIM with the screen name hejustlaughs.
